Hanmer Springs NZ Christmas Camp

The Annual New Zealand South Island Camp held in the alpine town of Hanmer Springs was attended by 70-odd people over the end of 2017 and the start of 2018.

Attendees at the camp enjoyed the beautiful sunshine (after the initial poor weather cleared) as well as the various walk and bike tracks, cafes, shops, and the famous Thermal Hot Pools that were on offer. The Youngies especially enjoyed the “tic-tic-tic” of young scootering hooligans who rattled the pavement early in the morning. Word on the street was that Pastor Dave’s snoring could be heard from at least 3 cabins away (yet to be confirmed by his representatives).

Combined mealtimes meant plenty of time to chat, laugh and edify each other. The quiz night proved popular and the letter ‘T’ theme of the New Year’s Eve concert yielded some perfect costumes; such as a ‘teapot’, ‘tourists’, ‘Thing 1’, ‘tradies’, ‘twenties’, ‘text’ and ‘tennis players.’

The theme of the camp “Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth” was expressed through various talks, testimonies, and songs. There was a baptism on 29th and daily meetings and prayer meetings was a great opportunity to build ourselves up. We were encouraged to think about what we can do for God, to show forth charity, study to show ourselves approved, and “what we sow today, we’ll reap tomorrow” (amongst many other great thoughts!)

All round a wonderful camp, and we hope to see some new and old faces next year!
