To everyone else in Australia it was a frosty weekend. However, For the RCC Youngies, it was a time of beautiful sunshine as we all headed to the magnificent Magnetic Island.
This years theme was True North, and learning to utilise our inner compass, the Holy Spirit, to continue to align ourselves with True North. Friday we all ventured via ferry to Magnetic Island and spent the day down at Horseshoe Bay. Some were lucky enough to see koalas, go kayaking or simply feed a lorikeet or two. The afternoon rolled around and we set up the camp and served up a feast in the dining hall. Pastor Mark Wade kicked of the camp with a fantastic talk on “Praying in the Spirit”.
Saturday was an early start with either a beach run or a yoga session run by our lovely Townsville youngie, Jade. Breakfast followed and then straight into small group sessions. These sessions covered topics such as Social Media, Priorities and other Modern Day issues our young people may face. Saturday afternoon we headed down to Picnic Bay where we were all split up into teams and competed in “The AMAZING Race”. Each group competed against the clock to build kites, create a mermaid, build the best castle, ball toss and beat Hazel at scrabble. Congratulations to TEAM 3 that won and a very big thank you to some of our Townsville saints who helped pull this activity together. Saturday evening, we listened to some beautiful items before the evenings meeting; “Living the Life” by Alex and Joel.
Sunday was another early start with either yoga or a beach run followed by a leisurely breakfast and coffee. The Sunday communion meeting saw some of the saints travel over from Townsville to join us for Pastor Justin Kells’ Talk where he spoke in depth about the concept of True North. We then all ventured down to Picnic Bay for an afternoon of beach cricket, rock climbing, and some good old slack lining. This was a beautiful afternoon of fellowship, it was evident on everyone’s faces how much they were enjoying camp and making the most of their time on Magnetic Island.
Sunday evening, we were gifted with many more beautiful items that then lead into Glenn Lavell’s Talk, “Why do we do the things we do?”. Finally, to wrap up camp Pastor Mark and Pastor Justin took to the couch in a Q&A style manner to answer some difficult questions. We then had a late supper and packed down the facilities ready for an early morning departure.
Townsville, we did it! We pulled off an amazing Youth Rally! Thanks again to everyone who assisted in organising and a special thankyou to everyone that made the trip. It was a brilliant time for being uplifted and for us all to re-focus and align ourselves, TRUE NORTH.
