Melbourne Youngies – Bake Off!

Melbourne Youngies - Bake Off!

Sitting in the peace and quiet that followed what was a hectic night at the Box Hill hall I couldn’t help, but breathe a sigh of relief.

The ovens were off, the floor was clean and my pancreas was working over time to pump insulin into my bloodstream –  to fight off the onslaught of sugar!

The night was a sugar feast with a side of extra butter… Or as some might call it ‘The Bake Off’.

Butter up!

Team Power in one corner; team Ignite in the other.

The night started with a search around the hall for bonus ingredients, it was a hard search, many ingredients hiding from my keen eyes. After all the ingredients were found, we all headed into the kitchen to get our aprons on. The plan was to make brownies, some muffins, delicious biscuits and a surprise menu item; bonus points were given out for decorations and of course presentation.

Team Ignite hard at work

The temperature got hot in the kitchen with all the sugar and butter that was being burnt… And the ovens that weren’t quite working. The teams pushed through and their perseverance paid off with each of the teams delivering amazing food and the presentation was top notch. One item of food that was presented in an interesting way was the delicious looking sludge cake. It was chocolate liquid baked in a saucepan… Enough said. Good work guys. đŸ™‚

Another dish that was an absolute crowd pleaser was the delicious brownie that both teams served up. What a great recipe!

All in all the teams put up a great abundance of food with quality and quantity on the menu.

Congratulations on a delicious sugar hit that will be sure to last a week or two.
