Melbourne Youngies Fancy Dress

The savannah was singing, the jungle was jiving and all the animals came out to play. The safari had come to Melbourne! Our annual fancy dress 21st celebration went off without the slightest hint of a hitch, a raucous night of bird calls and riotous colour.

Through the long grasses you could spy tiny giraffes, painted faces, different breeds of zebra, lions and a misplaced centaur, the likes of which you’ve never seen before. We saw giant birds and walking, talking trees and anthropomorphised jungle cats, prancing about on stage with unmatched veracity. The bongos echoed throughout the hall which was expertly decorated by our Youngies throughout the week, and while you may have caught yourself wondering why there were dinosaurs hanging about the place, you’d have no doubts whatsoever about how much fun we were all having.

Kids were bouncing on the mammoth bouncy castle, the furry friends were all well fed by an extremely hard-working kitchen, photos were taken in indulgent abundance. We were all treated to the vocal stylings of In Achord, with their rendition of Disney classics, Candace Miles’ soulful cover of Phil Collins and Kristin and Tania’s full-pelt run at a joyous safari medley. We heard from the Youngies turning 21, testimonies of what God has done in their lives before everyone sung Happy Birthday to them.

A huge thank you must be extended to all the young people who put the night together. These nights can’t succeed without the tireless efforts of our organisers and team captains and all the volunteers who spend many late nights at the hall painting and decorating in the lead up to the big night. The stunning painted savannah mural adorning the dining room wall was the stand out set-piece of the night. So, thanks all for coming, it was a magnificent night! See you next year!
