Melbourne Youngies Fancy Dress

Games & God; two things we can all get behind. Over the Saturday (09/09/2023), the lovely community of Revival Centres was able to get together and celebrate the 21 years of life that more of our wonderful young people have achieved. We were able to celebrate young Christians who in their very smiles showed how genuinely happy God had made them in the personal stories they shared. A big shout-out to all the helpers and behind-the-scenes people who were there throughout the week leading up to. It was all paint splatters, cardboard-cutting and excited (but tired) workers. Pat yourselves on the back 😉

Now, on the night itself, you could have been tricked into believing it was a Nintendo appreciation party. Sonic and co, Marios, Luigis and other icons made repeated appearances. Call of Duty and rifle-toting videogames had a respectable cohort whilst members of the wizarding world flu-powdered it in. The impossibly inarticulate population of Sims rocked up in full-force. All I could understand were the words ‘freeshivakadoo.’ No idea what that means. All-in-all, it was a diverse cast of games from across the decades.

The bigger theme of the night was, of course, community. 21 is the beginning for many people into adulthood proper. The years between 18-20 are forerunner years where you get to find out if you can make the cut in this world (on second-thought that might be a bit of a hot take). However, in a spirit-filled environment it also marks a turning point; as our engagement with the wider world increases, our reach to talk about Jesus increases.

Without the community getting together to celebrate, encourage and reflect on the wonderful youth, it would be disheartening. That next step could feel like heading into an uneven fight. But your presence, reader, at these events, at church, at everything we do, reminds a person that God has supplied us with a fab team of like-minded Christians. We know we need help from God in everything, and God knows we get by better in a Godly community.

So, to Ginger, Tayla, Dale, Ben, Ryan and Scarlett – an enthusiastic happy birthday, and to many more years loving God.
