The 2019/2020 South Island Christmas Camp was held in Hanmer Springs; New Zealand, it was attended by over 100 people. We were lucky enough to host an influx of Australian visitors from Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales.
There were a wide variety of activities on offer for attendees including forest and mountain biking tracks, convening of the annual ‘Mango Smoothie Club’, mini golf, walking tracks up to the nearby waterfall, and soaking up sunshine at the Thermal Hot Pools and river. Combined mealtimes provided frequent opportunities to spend time together and edify each other. The young people were treated to a fun-filled games night, which included the added zing of someone being accidentally concussed (all is well). Team Brady (obviously the better team) lost and were delighted to be given the reward of doing all the camp dishes one night.
‘Defense of the Gospel’ was the theme of camp and yielded many inspiring thoughts to take us into the New Year. We were encouraged to be fruitful, understand what we are defending, and strengthen ourselves and each other. We also heard plenty of excellent items, and testimonies of God working in people’s lives. Dinner and a meeting on one lovely evening down at a local reserve was a highlight for many.
The New Year’s Eve theme of ‘In Another Life’ provided some fun and innovative costumes; including a road cone, cowboys, Rocky and Adrian, a pilot, a few famous sportspeople, and a teletubby to name a few. Word on the street is that the saxophone item won unofficial People’s Choice Award, and the night also had some discovering their hidden talent for spoken word.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended this year, and we hope to see many people back again next year!
