Pastor Darcy Ryan from Brisbane travelled to Papua New Guinea with Pastor Graeme McKinstry from Dunedin. It was Pastor Darcy’s sixtieth trip.

He writes: PNG is called the “Land of the Unexpected”; I have renamed it the “Land of the Expected” as I understand that things do not always go as planned. Our first day was travelling from Brisbane to Port Moresby with a 90-minute stopover before heading on a domestic flight to Wewak. Our plane from PNG was over an hour late getting into Brisbane, making us arrive in POM with only minutes to catch our flight to Wewak. We made it as the domestic flight had been delayed by an hour. Great to have one of those unexpected works in our favour.

This trip, we had many cancelled and rescheduled flights that changed daily, which is par for the course in PNG.

Wewak is our first main meeting of fellowship with oversight and the assembly. It is always a delight to visit Wewak.

Vanimo

Our next port of call was Vanimo – usually a 40-minute flight, but with another rescheduled flight/s, it took us seven hours. (Wewak, Madang, POM, Vanimo) The welcome in Vanimo is always great, and the fellowship here was fantastic. Another Oversight meeting, planning meetings, Communion Meeting, and our Boat Ride down to Runape on Monday, 5th May. Two and a half hours in a 14ft boat was a pleasant ride as I was on the left side and didn’t get wet, whereas Pastor Graeme was on the right side and did.

Pastor Graeme spoke to all who attended (see photo below). As there were many observers attending this day, I spoke about the history of Revival Centres from its beginning in Australia and how the message has spread to the world, including Papua New Guinea. Pastor Selestine, our Zone Pastor from Wewak, sang an item; he has a great voice.

Leaving Vanimo for Runape. A two and a half hour boat trip – a beautiful day.

Runape assembly on the Border of the Vanimo and Sissano zones. 25 saints plus children in this assembly – well over 80 observers also attended the meeting resulting in four Baptisms

We were unable to get into Sissano once again due to a fuel shortage, another one of those Unexpected things, so we decided to cut short our visit to this zone and head to the Madang Zone. Plans and flights were cancelled and remade, only to be changed when our flight from Vanimo was cancelled. We decided to stay in Port Moresby until we were able to get out of Vanimo before leaving on Tuesday for Australia.

Port Moresby

Ultimately, it was great to stay in the capital for these six days, as Graeme and I could have extra fellowship with the saints in this city. A lot of future planning was completed for the upcoming National Rally, and the Youth Summit was finalised.

Five Pastors speaking at our last meeting in POM

Our work in Papua New Guinea is growing from strength to strength. All the Pastors are united in the message, and their dedication to their roles in the Church is rewarding to see. One of those expectations is when we put our faith and trust in the Lord.

Well done, Papua New Guinea.
