Pastor Lloyd Longfield 1919-2012

Pastor Lloyd

Pastor Lloyd Longfield passed away today (March 29, 2012), at the age of 93.

As the founding Pastor of this Church he has been instrumental in inspiring thousands to embrace the Holy Spirit.

His passion was for the need to receive the Holy Spirit, with the Bible evidence of speaking in tongues; His resolve was that Spirit-filled people should live a righteous life, and not return to their sinful ways; His clarity related to the prophecies of the Bible, and that the Lord will return as King of Kings; His determination was that the Revival Centres, like the early Church, should not compromise.

We salute a man, whose zeal for embracing the fundamentals of scripture is legendary.

We respect a man, who really understood that our God of the Bible meant what He said.

This Church is a beneficiary of Pastor Lloyd’s wonderful uncompromising vision.

Let us all play our parts in advancing the legacy of those that have gone before.

God Bless and thank you

Pastor Simon Longfield

Pastor Lloyd preaching:

“give it your best shot”

“you’ve got no right to get your neck in a knot”

“don’t just wipe away the webs; kill the spider”

“whatever He says: do it!”

“they’re not the ten suggestions, you know”

“better get baptised while the going’s good”

on speaking in tongues: “the technical term is ‘glossolalia’ – and with such technicalities they hope to gloss over it”

“you can’t be optimistic if you’ve got a misty optic”

“I’ll do the funnies, if you don’t mind”

“we’ll rule and reign for a thousand years: and that’s just for openers”

“it is a joy and a privilege to make a stand for God”

“that’s it, there isn’t any more”

  1. I never had a conversation with him in which I didn’t walk away uplifted, encouraged, and ready to take on the world.

Until that day when we will all meet again. Vale Pastor Lloyd.

Like The Lord himself and Paul the apostle, we have this vision (unto our salvation) because Pastor Lloyd was prepared to look into the Word of God, stand for it and do it.
    We must do the same.

I really looked up to Pastor Lloyd from the age of 18, till 36 (now 63) I still have fond memories of my time at the old Rialto Theatre, Kew, and remember Pastor Lloyd’s charismatic personality with his clever sayings, expressions and gestures he used to keep our attention! His teachings had a big impact on my life. He will be sadly missed by so many, including those many others who’ve moved on and loved him too. I’ll let some of them know, if they don’t already know. Thinking of you all as the fellowship he founded, as you mourn his passing on, as well as sending my condolences to all of the Longfield family. Sorry I cannot be there for the service.

  23. Carl Gibbard : March 31, 2012 at 6:19 am

Pastor Lloyd. What can I say about this much loved brother. A pastor in the true sense of the word, regarding the word of God, a man with a sharp and clear vision (Hebrews 5v14), and regarding committment, a preacher who meant business.

From the early days to this time he has stood, unchanged in his conviction of the Salvation message: to repent, to be baptised and to received the Holy Spirit with the Bible evidence of speaking in tongues. Some men have weakened over the years, they have grown weary and have watered down the word, but our brother has stood firm to the end, and for this, I for one, am truly grateful.

Paul, the apostle instructed Timothy, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2 Tim 2v2). Unlike many modern day evangelists, Pastor Lloyd has not been full of his own self importance, he did not stifle those who would come after him, (those future leaders), but instead, has passed on this sound doctrine and has in recent years committed the work of this ministry to faithful men who share this same vision.

Our beloved brother and those faithful co-workers have stood the test of time. Can we do less. Praise the Lord.

  24. Simon Longfield : March 31, 2012 at 6:28 am

Since my dad’s passing, there has been a constant flow of text messages and Facebook messages. Thank you for the outpouring of love to the family. Thank you for words of encouragement. Thank you for telling us how much Pastor Lloyd influenced your life, as he did mine. It is extraordinary! God Bless!

I am so sorry I can’t be there for you
No doubt there will be many, not just a few
So my thoughts are with your family today
There aren’t many words I can possibly say

But your battle is over now you have done your best
Just sleep for a while, take a wee rest
In the twinkling of an eye you’ll be there
On that day when our Lord does appear.

      God bless

For Pastor Lloyd (from Linda Poland, Perth RCI

You are just asleep for a short while,
One day soon you’ll be able to smile,
Even though today seems a little grey,
In time we know the clouds will fade away,
For precious in God’s sight are you,
Many are called, there will be few,
In the Twinkling of an Eye He’ll be there,
And you’ll surely meet Him in the air,
To live is Christ, to die is gain,
There will be trials and tribulations,
        much rain,
So rest for a while, he’s not ready yet
        He’ll be back soon,
        His time is set.

  25. Craig Rawcliffe : March 31, 2012 at 10:20 am

When I think of Pastor Lloyd I think of a man who was fully persuaded. There was never a shadow of doubt about his conviction and as I remember him I am encoraged to be single minded in this race for our souls and those that will hear us. I ask myself “why did I always feel great after speaking with him?” Because he spoke the word of God with the authority granted him by God. He always exhorted to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. I now rejoice that God has made a way for P. Lloyd to “forever be with Him”. God Bless Norma and family and all those that laboured alongside this precious earthern vessel who glorified God with his time.
Love Craig, Petrice Luke and William.

  26. Unbelievable inspiration and always encouraging and sometimes correcting but in a very kind way! Loved his visits to canada, portland USA and meeting him at freshwater creek to chat about the lord. Need to keep on keeping on and make this the best year ever for us all in the lord.

  28. James Sandeman : March 31, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Through the insight & joy Pastor Lloyd provided through the Holy Spirit we have benefited beyond measure as a Church, as an individual my conversations with him, though brief in length, have had more of an impact on my life than most. I believe this is because he wasn’t afraid to correct & he did so from the desire to see a fellow soul saved. Just like God, Pastor Lloyd wanted all men to come to repentance and to stay on the straight and narrow. He has left us a great example.

  29. Brian Ferguson : March 31, 2012 at 7:14 pm

Through many times when others were being persuaded of men rather than God, Pr Lloyd believed and was fully pursuaded that the word of God Word was fundamental and that the individual needed to act on it. As a result I came to a fellowship that holds Gods Word High. I came to a fellowship that understands the importance of Doctrine, Righteousness, Unity. That enjoys an understanding of prophesy and Gods Plans for the nations, in particular, Israel and our part in it. That enjoys an understanding in Gods work in us, that we are overcomers and victorious through God and that we have a signs following ministry. That understands Gods Love.
I thank God for oversight that have led the way over so many years faithfully. Pr Lloyds life is certainly something to rejoice in as it has bore fruit in so many ways.

All the best to you and your family at this time.

When it came to being a truly remarkable and honourable person, your dad really blew everybody else out of the water. His testimony was always as impeccable as those awful white shoes he used to wear. I really admired him.

I know it was expected but I guess you’re never really completely ready for a day like today.

    Warm regards, Richard and Liz

What an example! Its what we all want…to serve the Lord with everything we’ve got , without compromise until we fall asleep in Christ or make it alive until the day we are all raised. The dead in Christ first!

I loved P Lloyd preaching, its something I longed for and I either got chills, laughed or thought to myself Hallelujah…more often all three.
I loved talking with P Lloyd..as many have said. it was a positive experience every time. I could never be in the same room without saying
    G’day.

I loved watching P Lloyd and Norma together…what a team!

I loved P Lloyd as a brother in Christ and Im so thankful for his vision and his example.

I thank God for P Lloyd and look forward to being reunited in the next age.

God bless Norma and the family…thank you for sharing him and your tireless support over a lifetime.

  52. Melbourne Youngies : April 1, 2012 at 7:35 pm

Thank you to Pastor Lloyd for preaching the whole gospel, and setting us up with the simple, clear message we enjoy today. He showed us that it’s only complicated if you leave bits out, and we have to follow his lead and preach the whole message, no matter what. He truly was a servant of the Lord, he leaves behind a legacy of standing firm on sound doctrine, and for that we will be eternally grateful.

Thank you from the Melbourne Youngies.

  53. “I do the funnies around here” RIP Pastor Lloyd

We are so very grateful for Pr Lloyd’s zeal and determination to stand for what is right. It always has been, and will continue to be, hugely encouraging for us. His faithful ministry of the word of God has shaped our vision and understanding, and we are so thankful that we are able to worship the Lord in spirit and TRUTH because of this. We praise the Lord for raising him up to this, and Pr Simon as he has taken over the reins. Much love to Aunty Norma, Pr Simon and Wendi and the family, from the Dillon Clan.

  57. Peter Wilson : April 1, 2012 at 9:22 pm

I came to know Pr. Lloyd very well over the period of time that I was caretaker of the Forum Theatre and the 10 yrs I looked after the talk ministry in Melb. I had a great respect for him, like the Lord, Pr, Lloyd was no respecter of persons, he had no favorates, it was the Word of God or nothing. We had many a good chat about the scriptures, Bible Prophecy, the state of the world, etc. The conversations about me being a single man were very entertaining, I didnt mind being roughed up at times.
I recieved a tap on the shoulder one sunday, “listen chum” was the response, “I really appreciate the roll you do looking after the Talk ministry, now! if you ever hear anything from the platform, even if it,s a talk of mine that you think should be erased, I support you 100% on it. ” Of course I could never do that to Pr. Lloyd, his ministry to me personally over the years has been more valuable than gold. I miss the chum already.
Deepest condolences to Norma, Pr. Simon, Jonathon and families.

Many of us owe Pastor Lloyd and the early founders of the ministry our Spiritual lives. The vision shown all those many years ago is why so many of us are Spirit Filled today. Thank you on behalf of my family and all of the Saints for our salvation and the unity into this great family of God. Without Pr Lloyd, many of us would still be wandering in the wilderness instead of rejoicing in the Spirit. Thoughts to the family for their loss, but rejoicing in the knowledge that his battle is won.

A real evangelist and a good shepherd. It didn’t matter if you were a wee lamb or an old ram, you were important to him. He always looked after the sheep. To Norma, Pastor Simon and all the family – Deepest Sympathy.

  60. Leader Elizah : April 2, 2012 at 7:22 am

Pastor Lloyd, you were the Shepard of the Lord’s sheep. You were faithful, much with wounds because of our friend and savior Yushuah. You were representative of the Lord, sow even with much physical lose but much spiritual gain. Becuase of Your courage, PNG and the rest of the world have the word (baptism, reciceving gift of H/Sprit, tongues and miracles),light is conquering some darkest regions of the world!

In the time to come, the pearly gates of Heaven will be much surpriese and looking forward to meeting you, Jesus, Father. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord(2 Corinthians 5:8 )!

Our sympathy to the immediate families.

  63. Dear Pr. Simon,

Alicia and I just wanted to express our deepest condolences to you and your family. We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Pr. Lloyd and are so privelaged to have been a part of his ministry. When I came to the Lord almost 12 years ago we began listening to Pr. Lloyd and loved it. I still can’t get enough of it and I still love listening to him. I have already told Alicia that everyone who attends my funeral (should the Lord tarry) will get a copy of Pr. Lloyd’s talk, ‘Believe…’ a classic that gets right to the point and doesn’t hold any punches. We’ll have to convert it from tape to CD though.

He was also so inspiring and spoke with such conviction and refused to compromise the word of the Lord. I have always looked up to him and yourself like superstars – I even got to talk to him once on the phone when you visited Portland. We are so grateful to be a part of RCI and its committment to staying true to God’s word. Another wonderful thing is that you have had an awesome relationship with your father who loves the Lord – I think of my own dad and love him dearly but we differ on the Lord big time. I look forward to my family being as united in the Lord as you guys. You are a shining example of the same vision and perseverence that your dad had. I can’t imagine the experiences you guys must have had and the mentoring that took place – awesome, I’m sure.

Thanks for being such a faithful leader for the church. We are deeply saddened to see Pr. Lloyd leave but soon enough he’ll meet the Lord in the air and we’ll just keep rolling. Just know that we love you and support you and reach out to you at this time – hard to put into words, of course, but what a man he was, having the courage to do the same thing he did for so long. Just awesome. We have all been so blessed. God bless you and your family!

      Hey Alicia and James,

Bitter/sweet feelings upon hearing of Pastor Lloyd’s passing. Bitter for those of us feeling his loss. Sweet for him who has finally entered into the rest after 93 years of mortality. I too still listen to his ministry of yester-year and get thrilled everytime. There is nothing like it.
Good to read your comments and glad to hear you are abounding in the Lord.
All our love and God’s richness on you,

  65. Neil and Lisa : April 2, 2012 at 10:17 am

We feel privileged to have known and loved Pastor Lloyd, a man of great vision and faithfulness to God and His Word. Pastor Lloyd shared his revelation of the Word of God and we were inspired to believe.

Millions in modern day “Pentecost” can’t seem to connect the sacrifice of Jesus Christ with the necessity to receive the Holy Spirit for salvation. Pastor Lloyd truly understood the simple scriptural fact that the measure of the sacrifice of the Son of God is not only the forgiveness of sin but the making available of God’s Holy Spirit, and this clarity is what has characterised RCI and benefited all who heard and believed over the decades.

You knew exactly what Pastor Lloyd stood for. He provided an example and ministered to us on what it means to walk/live “in the Spirit”. He was a compassionate man. He opposed those who sought to compromise the Word of God or hurt the church. A true servant of God. And just as the Kingdom of God is “not of this world”, the legacy of Pastor Lloyd’s ministry cannot be bound by place and time. We thank the Lord for Pastor Lloyd and also for his wife Norma and others who played a vital role in his life and ministry.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Norma and the family of Pastor Lloyd at this time of loss.

  66. Brendon & Tina Backx : April 2, 2012 at 11:59 am

Thanks Pastor Lloyd for your “no compromise” stand your direction and your inspirational talks you gave over the years, til we meet again!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Norma and the family during this time of loss.

  67. The Gowlland Family : April 2, 2012 at 12:18 pm

Our thoughts and best wishes are with the family. Pr. Lloyd will be greatly missed. His ministry was second to none and as mentioned above, we all felt uplifted after speaking with him. He was a great support in times of trouble and his solutions and words were very wise. We loved his sense of humour and many a time I was doubled over with laughter. We will see you again soon Pr.Lloyd. God bless.

Sincere condolences to Pr Simon Longfield and family from Corrinna and myself. Being a Kiwi, I got to know Pr Lloyd via talk tapes, (volume on max to beat the 1000cc engine on my Morris Mini).

Many paint being a Christian as too hard, mysterious and far off. The Apostle Paul was so confident in his experience that three times he wrote “be ye followers of me”.

Many thanks to Pr Lloyd who always set the bar high and expected it to be reached by all he preached to.

  69. It was with great sadness we heard the news about Pastor Lloyd Longfield who has passed away, now asleep in the Lord. Many tears have been shed, but now much more rejoicing has taken place, as we remember the good times, listening to his ministry and the support he has given us in PNG.

Condolences to sister Norma, Pastor Simon and Wendi and the Longfield extended family. Our thoughts are with the Melbourne assembly at this time.
Pastor Bonny Kinea, Pastor Hendrick Wipul, Pastor Jack Auto and all the saints in Lumi and the West Sepik district. We salute you

  71. Ben Burrows : April 2, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Praise the Lord for our brother, friend and mentor who throughout the years stood strong and firmly on the Word. Who provided the wisdom and insight to fight a good fight and to ‘give it our best shot’. Who showed the passion and zeal that you must do it God’s way or else. Who always had something to say to put smile on your face. Whose favourite chorus to open a meeting was ‘Brighten the Corner’… Who is now resting in peace waiting to be called upon yonder in the air. 1 Cor 15:51-58
    Condolences to the family,

LRL STRENGTH and HUMILITY in Biblical proportions. Thank you.

  75. I loved this man who kept moving us forward. He was unwavering in his determination to have us meet the Lord in the air. Thank goodness for our ‘tape’ collections, that means we can dip into, and savour, Pr Lloyd’s wisdom and wit for many a day yet.

Best love to Norma, who made it all look so easy, and thanks Pr Simon for following unswervingly on.

  76. Poem - Our Precious Pastor Lloyd : April 3, 2012 at 9:12 am

    OUR PRECIOUS PASTOR LLOYD

    Once in a lifetime
    There comes a man
    Who helped change your life
The way no one else had

    Who spent his life
    Serving the Lord
    And preaching faithfully
    God’s holy Word

    Who never would waiver
    No matter what was said
    Who followed the scriptures
    The way they were meant

A man who studied the bible
    But didn’t pick and choose
    What he would preach
    Like so many do

    To have the courage
To tell it like it is
    Not soften God’s word
    To please every man

    Who obeyed the Lord
    And guided his flock
    He preached true salvation
As it is written in the word

    He put others first
    Even before himself
    And guided and prayed for
    Those who needed God’s help

    A rock, a leader
    A precious friend
    A true inspiration
    To family and Saints

And he did all these things
    Not needing acknowledgement
    A humble man
    Never wanting a fuss

    He ‘fought the good fight’
And ‘gave it his best shot’
    He practiced what he preached
A true example for us all

    A friend of the Lord
    A friend of the Saints
    A spiritual brother
    A ‘good and faithful servant’

What’s the name you may you ask
    Of this incredible man
    His name is Lloyd Longfield
    And he’ll never be forgotten.

  77. Chris & Marion : April 3, 2012 at 9:48 am

Our thoughts and prayers are with Norma and the Longfield family. Pastor Lloyd touched our lives and those of many others who heard his preaching over the years. He will be remembered as a man of vision and passion in preaching the full gospel, his strong leadership and his great sense of humour.

  78. Every now and again throughout history someone gets a calling and to that individual the Lord reveals the mystery of His plan in a way very few have experienced.

Having received this revelation with courage, commitment and dedication and not being swayed or influenced by circumstances in life has brought us to understand the fundamental reality of God’s plan and purpose that very few have had the privilege to experience.

We thank the Lord for Pr. Lloyd’s god-given vision and his absolute conviction in the Word of God which can only be by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:58

    THE LEGACY OF A PATRIOT
    (Principle Pastor Lloyd R. Longfield)

The Life of every men is a diary in which he means to write
    one story and writes another.
Each new day brings another chapter of life and it dawn on us
    to encounter
every circumstance that fate had in stored for us.
Every golden era in human history proceeds from the devotion
and righteous passion of some individual.
They are no bona fide mass movements,
    it just looks that way.
There is always one man who knows his God. Knows where He
is standing, knows where His foundation is.
Death is inevitable; it may come to pass,
The individual may succumbs, but he does not die if he had left
    something behind.
The legacy of a patriot is significant in life itself,
A life is not significant except for its impact on other lives.
The legacy of a patriot is next to none.
God called you in the very beginning,
He was with you when you tread the earth with His Gospel of Light,
you were His and always be.
    You are before His countenance,
Your legacy, your life, the serene, silent beauty of a wonderful, holy
life is the most powerful inspiration in the world, next to the
    might of God.

Indeed yours was a legacy of a prophet, an evangelist, a pastor,
a father, Apostle of Christ and mighty man of God.
Your legacy will always lingered within us,
    The Legacy Of A Patriot.

    POEM (Ernie Christie)

A man named Lloyd did cross my path
As I journeyed through this life
He told me all about the Lord
And his word cut like a knife

“You must be born again” he said
“With the spirit and with water”
I said “My sins are really bad”
    He replied, “It doesn’t matter”

He asked me then to confess
    That Jesus Christ is Lord
He plunged me ‘neath the waters
    Then rising my spirit soared

    The overwhelming joy I felt
    Will never go away
I will praise the Lord in this new tongue
    Every minute of every day

And now I know the Lord is mine
He is my sword and shield
And grateful will I ever be
To my Friend Pastor Lloyd Longfield

  91. Simon Longfield : April 5, 2012 at 1:49 am

It has been a big day! This afternoon Pastor Lloyd was buried quietly by the family. Tonight I stood before hundreds of people and told his story. As I felt willed on by an audience eager to hear his epic tale, I was barely able to suppress how I really felt. Devastation was overcome by pride. Yes, I am proud that my dad was instrumental in the lives of so many thousands of people; I am proud that so many cherish his absolute resolve to commit to God’s purpose and plan; I am proud to be his son as well as call him my best friend … Everyone has a dad or mum, I know that, but there will only ever be one Pastor Lloyd. Rest in peace dad … I’m gonna miss our chats! Simon.

    Dear Pastor Simon,

We heard this morning about Pastor Lloyd’s passing. Obviously, there is nothing that anyone can say that will make this time easier for you, your family, your mom, and others that were closest to him . It is times like this that we praise Jesus for his “peace that passes all understanding” because he offers us peace through the Spirit. I first met Pastor Lloyd in 1987 when he and your mom came to Canada. He has been such a vibrant influence in my life. We will all miss him. Praise God that we know that this is only the beginning and not the end. Kaye, the kids and I want you to know that we are praying for you and your family at this time.

    Sincerely,
    Don Sullivan

  93. Peter Johansen : April 5, 2012 at 8:39 am

    Hi all,

I’ll miss Pastor Lloyd Longfield very much. He was such a very faithful man that he’s been preaching for about 50 years from 1948 until 1998. Since when I came into the church in 1981 or 1982, he gave us very good talks straight from the Bible – even back in 1970’s as well. The Bible has the answers to every problems in the world. Also we live forever if we do what the Bible says. Also the dead will be raised up, and we’ll meet him together in the air when the Lord returns. We’re the happiest people in our planet earth.

    1 Corinthians 15:51-58
