Personal Story: Emma
by Melbourne
Hi, my name is Emma,
My testimony starts back in early 1983.
I had seen a change in my brother and he told me that he had received a personal experience from God after he decided to get baptized one night at a Revival Centres meeting. After being baptised, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues (a language he had not learnt or heard before but given to him by God). I decided to go to a few meetings as, I must admit, I was a bit worried at what he was ‘getting himself into’, but after some time I came to the realisation that I too needed to be right with God and wanted the same experience for myself. On June 14th, 1983 I decided to get baptized and while praying in the meeting room I received the Holy Spirit, speaking in a brand new language which was incredible and I knew from that moment that God really did exist. His life was not just a story that we could read about but He was living and working in me and in my life.
I was a young teenager when I received the Holy Spirit and I have had an amazing life. I have had my trials, tribulations and great times just like any one would experience, but I know that my one constant is the Lord. We read in the bible that we are in this world but not of it. I turn to Him for all things good and bad and always remember to thank Him for what He does in my life.
In December 2012 after finding a lump on my breast, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I must admit when that word (cancer) was said to me I was shocked and very teary for some time. I was told by the specialists that I would need to have a full mastectomy and my lymph nodes removed from my left armpit. Early 2013 I had that procedure done and after I recovered from that I had 16 weeks of chemotherapy followed by 30 sessions of radiation.
I have to say that I don’t know how things would have turned out if I didn’t have God to turn to, but He got me through all that without any underlying side effects and I even managed to return to work in between my chemo sessions. My work colleagues were astounded at how well I was and I just kept saying that my faith and experience with God was what was getting me through. It has been over 8 years and I am healthier now than I have ever been. I thank God for His hand on all my situations, and my future I know is assured as I continue looking, praying and reading His word and I cannot wait for His return.
