Personal Story: Michael

“Hey God, if you’re out there I just want to know the truth about you. I don’t want to play church or be taken for a ride; I just want to know the truth”.
Hi, my name is Michael, I spoke those words 35 years ago not knowing but hoping there was more to life than that which I had been living. Three days after calling out to the Lord this way, I was walking down the street and someone from the Revival Centres handed me a pamphlet that contained testimonies of people both young and old, male and female, all claiming that God had proved himself in their lives in a meaningful and tangible way. They all spoke of a life changing experience they called receiving the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues just as recorded in the new testament.
I was intrigued by this. Does God really move and work in people’s lives as he did in the bible? I resolved myself to go to a Sunday meeting and check it out. Sitting in the meeting I heard the word of God being faithfully preached and felt compelled to give God a go. I was baptised by full immersion and received the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues, just as they did on the day of Pentecost. At that moment my doubts and fears had been cast away. As a result of this experience I now know with certainty that God is real and working in the lives of individuals. My life changed forever in the best way possible that day.
We live in an age of information overload, never in the history of mankind have we had such access to a dizzying array of information and never have we been so connected. Yet paradoxically people are more confused than ever (fake news anyone!) and society is experiencing an epidemic of loneliness.
Cynicism abounds in our communities regarding those who have the rule over us and people are genuinely afraid of the state of the planet, politically, economically and environmentally. What sort of future do we have? If this is you, I can tell you from my own personal experience that there is an alternative, that will not let you down or disappoint.
I praise God for His loving kindness, His grace and His mercy. For showing me that the answer to my problems and by extension, the problems society is experiencing today cannot be solved politically because the root cause of all the ailments of man are not political but spiritual. As it says in John 4 v 24; ‘God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.’
My life prior to receiving the Holy Spirit is a mere shadow of the life I have today in Christ Jesus. There is nothing that can compare. I have a great life now and an eternal future. Thank you Lord.

The Melbourne assembly in Australia began just after World War 2. It is the headquarters for the Revival Centres Church globally. It is composed of three centres: Central (in Box Hill), Southern (in Mt Eliza) and Western (in Williamstown).
