Popondetta (PNG) Visit
by Mission News
Well here we are back in Port Moresby, feeling a little more civilized after some good tucker. Pastor David and myself have just arrive back from Popondetta which is at the north end of the Kokoda track, an area devoid of most basic comforts. The balance here is in meeting the saints, Pastor Joe and his family are a delight.
We were greeted at the airport by a dozen or so of the assembly folk and made our way into town.
Pastor Joe has not had a lot of visitors and was very happy to discuss matters related to his assembly and to receive encouragement from further up the line. Arrangements were made for the next day, instant noodles for dinner and muesli for desert.
Wednesday morning, the meeting was out of town in a picturesque village setting. On arrival the greeting was generous with flowers, handshakes and ‘’praise the Lord, God bless and ello’s.” The chorus singing is something else, testimonies of salvation that remind us that in any place, at any time God has given us all a magnificent miracle deliverance. Pastor David and myself were invited to say a little something. The folk appreciated Pastor David speaking mostly in Pidgin. Refreshments were enjoyed after the meeting and then on to an outreach at the local market where the beetle nut chewing locals lent a polite ear. Later we learnt this was the first public outreach they had done, a new experience for both the saints and the locals. Outreaches are now on the agenda, excellent!
The following day was followed up with another outreach and more fellowship. The Church in Popondetta is expecting to gain traction and presence in the area as they remain earnest and energetic in their experience.
5 am start Friday morning, our lift to the airport is late, the airport staff are late, the office door needs to be kicked in because someone lost the key. We check in late, we board late and depart even later. Yes, here we are in Port Moresby. Hurry up and wait.
