The prophet was one who spoke on behalf of God.
The role of the prophets was put forward by Jesus, “the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb 12:2). The prophets in the Old Testament were to direct Israel to God. This was on a communal front and not a personal one.
Giving a personal statement on the future of someone is fortune telling. Prophecy is not of private communication. It is foretelling the future of nations and peoples. In rare events (eg Paul’s death) it does say what will happen in an oblique way. But people who tell others of their future remove the need for faith. God was against them and time and time again said that this was NOT of Him! He called them false prophets.
We walk by faith, not by sight. We walk forward and God directs our path.
