The prophet was one who spoke on behalf of God. The role of the prophets was put forward by Jesus, “the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb 12:2). The prophets in the Old Testament were to direct Israel to God. This was on a communal front and not a personal one. Giving a personal statement on the future of someone is fortune telling.
