Hi, we’ve made a minor refresh to our website. We needed to update our underlying theme (which was no longer being properly supported) and took the opportunity to make some other changes.
CLEANER SIMPLER PAGES
We’ve removed a lot of the extra navigation and promotion of other parts of the website to make pages simpler, less cluttered and punchier. We are still working on reducing the wording here and there (people don’t read large chunks of text any more).
SIMPLER ASSEMBLY PAGES
Most assembly pages are quite simple now, with meeting and contact details and a map. Where it exists, assembly pages also contain a link to local websites or social media.
FEWER CALENDARS
Assemblies don’t use calendars on websites anymore. The only calendar remaining will be our international calendar.
CLEARER ON PHONES
We’ve used elements on pages that appear on phones more clearly. A significant part of our usage is on mobile phones.
QUICKER TO LOAD
We’ve removed some elements that, although they looked good, were slowing down page loading.
REMOVED COMMENTS
People mostly comment on social media now, we thought comments on the webpages were just cluttering them up. Removing them also streamlines management of the site.
REMOVED CONTACT FORM
We now offer a number of ways people can contact us (including phone numbers, social media and email). The Contact Form just generated a massive amount of spam.
UPDATED TAG CLOUD
Tags (see three-quarters down the Home page) now provide results to all categories of information. Clicking on a tag may return results from testimonies, talks and/or articles.
TALKS
Talks go straight to a video display (with some details on the side).
EASIER TO MANAGE
A number of back-end changes have been made to reduce the effort in maintaining the website.
UPDATED PRIVACY STATEMENT
The Privacy Statement is needed for us to comply with European law.
CREATED A FAVICON
That’s the little red herald (horse and rider) that appears in tabs in browsers that are showing our pages.
WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO NEXT
1. Put up some newer talks
2. Explore setting up a podcast of audio talks
3. Display post-specific tags for each post, especially testimonies and talks.
4. Show tags that only apply to testimonies on the Stories page.
5. Show tags that only apply to articles on the articles page.
6. Show tags that only apply to talks on the talks page.
There might be some glitches over the next 24 hours while things settle down. Hope you enjoy it.
